The person behind the guides

Hey, I'm Brian.
I plan trips for fun.

Gamcheon Culture Village — Busan

Gamcheon Culture Village — Busan

Okinawa, Japan

Okinawa, Japan

I grew up in Boston and moved to San Diego in 2020 looking for a change of scenery. Best decision I've made. Out there I met my wife, who had already been living in San Diego for close to a decade but is originally from Atlanta. So between the two of us we've got the Northeast, most of the South, and pretty much all of San Diego County covered including the spots that don't show up in any travel guide.

I've done over a dozen road trips in the last decade. Not the "drive to a resort and sit by a pool" kind. The kind where you map out a route, find the best taco truck between Tucson and El Paso, stumble onto a campsite that doesn't show up in any app, and accidentally have the best meal of your life at a place with three Google reviews. That's the stuff I'm good at.

My wife and I honeymooned through Japan and South Korea for three weeks. Eight cities, too much ramen, one very crowded fish market in Busan, and the floating torii gate at Miyajima that we almost missed because I thought we had more time. We didn't. We ran. Worth it.

We also recently got a Berniedoodle named Banks. He's been to the mountains, Vegas, and Malibu. He has strong opinions about rest stops.

The reason PostMark exists is simple: friends kept asking me where to eat in Tokyo and I kept spending two hours sending them voice memos. At some point it made more sense to just offer it properly. Everything I send you is researched the same way I'd research it for myself.

NYC — New York City

Restaurants · Bars · Coffee · Broadway · Rooftop Views · What Locals Actually Do

The Midtown rule: Any restaurant with a laminated menu, photos of food, and a host outside waving you in is a skip. One street over from those, consistently, is something genuinely worth eating at.

🍽️

Best Restaurants

Burger Joint at Le Parker Meridien Hidden Gem

Fort Worth, Texas

James Beard · Michelin BBQ · Soul Food · Stockyards · Sundance Square

Fort Worth is not Dallas. A genuine cattle-trail identity, independent restaurants shaped by real ranching heritage, Michelin-recognized BBQ, and a soul food tradition rooted in the Historic Southside that predates the city's modern food reputation.

🔥

Day One — Stockyards, BBQ & Sundance Square

Snooze A.M. Eatery — Breakfast FW Staple

Fort Worth's most beloved brunch spot. Habanero pork belly Benedict, seasonal pancake, pork belly fried rice. Arrive before 9am on weekends to skip the wait.

Reata Restaurant — Dinner Eater Featured

The definitive Fort Worth dinner. Blackened buffalo ribeye, carne asada with cheese enchiladas, tamale appetizers. Texas 75 Martini. Rooftop bar open weekends — go up for post-dinner drinks over Sundance Square.

The Sterling Lounge — Night Drinks

Fort Worth's best cocktail bar. The Old Fashioned is consistently called the best in the city. Late night: The Amber Room speakeasy on Bryan Ave — look for the suspicious wooden door.

🎵

Day Two — Soul Food, Culture & Only-in-FW

Island Guide

Madeira, Portugal

Atlantic Island · Levada Hikes · Funchal · Local Food · Cliff Views · First-Timer's Guide

Madeira is not a beach destination — it's something far rarer. A volcanic island draped in ancient laurel forest, cascading levadas, and extraordinary food. You need at least 5 days. Rent a car — Madeira's best experiences all require driving.

🍽️

Restaurants — Funchal

Maravilhas Regional ⭐ 4.9 — Must

The most local restaurant in Funchal. Daily fresh menu, best poncha on the island, fraction of tourist prices. Up a steep hill — the walk is worth it. Cash preferred.

A Tendinha do Rancho

Traditional Madeiran family kitchen away from the tourist strip. Espada com banana, espetada, milho frito. The kind of place where the owner explains every dish. Booking essential.

Order These Dishes

Espada com banana (black scabbardfish with fried banana) · Lapas (grilled limpets with garlic butter) · Espetada (beef on a laurel branch) · Milho frito (fried polenta cubes) · Bolo do caco with garlic butter

Poncha — The Island Spirit

Aguardente de cana (sugar cane spirit) with lemon and honey. The essential Madeiran drink. Order it at every bar you visit — every place makes it slightly differently.

🥾

Levada Hikes & Outdoors

Levada do Caldeirao Verde Must

The most dramatic levada walk on the island — through tunnels, along cliff-edge channels, into a valley with a 100-foot waterfall. 13km round trip. Bring a torch for the tunnels.

Pico Ruivo — Summit Walk Must

Madeira's highest peak at 1,862m. On clear days you see the whole island and the Atlantic horizon. Start from Achada do Teixeira for the easiest route (45 min to summit). Above the clouds in winter.

Fanal Laurissilva Forest

Ancient laurel forest (UNESCO World Heritage) on the island's northwest plateau. Twisted, moss-covered trees in morning mist — genuinely other-worldly. Best at dawn before the tour buses arrive.

Porto Moniz Natural Pools

Natural lava rock swimming pools on the north coast. Swimming in the Atlantic sheltered by ancient volcanic rock. Café and changing facilities on site. Dramatic in any weather.

Cabo Girão — Europe's Highest Sea Cliff

580m straight down to the Atlantic. Glass platform extends over the edge. Combined with lunch at Câmara de Lobos (Churchill's favorite village) for a perfect half-day west of Funchal.

🌊

Scenic Drives & Views

North Coast Road — EN101

The most dramatic coastal drive in Portugal. Tunnels, waterfalls, and sheer cliffs from São Vicente to Porto Moniz. Take the old coastal road (not the highway) — it's slower and completely extraordinary.

Ponta do Sol — Sunniest Village in Portugal

The southwest coast's quietest gem. A black pebble beach, fishing boats, and a village that seems to exist at its own pace. The bar above the beach at sunset is one of Madeira's great moments.

Câmara de Lobos

The most photographed fishing village on Madeira — Churchill painted here repeatedly. Colourful boats in the harbor, traditional restaurants on the clifftop. 15 minutes west of Funchal.

Monte — Tobogganing & Gardens

Above Funchal: the Botanical Garden and Monte Palace Tropical Garden, followed by the iconic wicker toboggan ride down 2km of cobbled streets guided by carreiros in straw hats. Genuinely fun.

Car hire tip: Rodavante at Funchal airport is the well-regarded local company. Book 3 days minimum — you need the flexibility.
